Elvira Anderson

Elvira Anderson, 91, of Glenburn, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, with her children at her side, at a Minot hospital.

Elvira Clara Handeland was born Feb. 21, 1921, to Theodore B. and Alma A. (Weise) Handeland, in Lansford. She grew up on her father’s farm near Lansford, attended school at Mount Rose Township School and graduated from Lansford High School.

On Sept. 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to Grant M. Anderson, of Glenburn. Following their marriage, they lived on the farm near Glenburn. In 1957, the family moved into a newly constructed house on the property where she lived until a few days prior to her death.

Her greatest joy was having her children and grandchildren with her. She enjoyed many activities, including dancing, camping, fishing and visiting relatives in other states. In her later years, she enjoyed working with word puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles and especially watching the wild birds at the feeders. Grant passed away in 2005.

Family: Elvira is survived by a son, Ron Anderson, Glenburn; daughters, Barb (Rick) Van Wechel, Mishawaka, Ind., and Sally (Tom) Alef, Maple Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Aaron (Jessica) Van Wechel, Grant Alef, Theresa Alef, Sarah (Aaron) Caveglia, Heather (Carl) Hetler and Becca Canastra; great-grandchildren, Erik, Anders, Grace, Juliana, Collin and Connor; brothers, Ted and Larry Handeland, both Minot, Don Handeland, of Wyoming; sisters, Gladys (Norman) Abernathey, Minot, Erma Vlach, Cadiz, Ky., Doris Huddleston, Astoria, Ore., and Marian (Leonard) Rice, Pagosa Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Joyce Handeland, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elvira was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grant; brothers, Melvin and Lyle Handeland; sisters, Helen Helming and Hazel Pendley; and niece, Kyle Handeland.

A Celebration of Life service: Will be held in the spring at a date yet to be determined.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Memorials: Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
