IRS office soaked, closed

A water main ruptured last Sunday at the 305-17th Ave. SW commercial building, flooding Minot’s Internal Revenue Service Taxpayer Assistance Center.

The IRS branch has since closed for repairs, though a number of its nonreproducable tax forms, such as the W-2 and 1099, will be available at the Minot Post Office. As yet, there is no indication when the office will reopen or specific details about the exact cause of the break.

The administrative offices of Power Fuels Inc. which owns the building were also affected, but despite some water damage the company will continue operating as per usual.

For IRS tax help, the next closest assistance center is located in Bismarck at 2911 N. 14th St. No appointments are necessary, the office being open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (except for 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. lunch hour). Additional information about operating hours and available services of Taxpayer Assistance Centers can be found at www.irs.gov/localcontacts. The IRS also has a toll-free help line that is open weekdays from 7 a.m until 7 p.m., at 1-800-829-1040.
