Pearl Mongeon

Pearl Ruth (Breslin) Mongeon, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha Mae (Connor) Breslin, was born along with her twin sister on June 1, 1917, in the home of her parents in Sanish. She died at the age of 95 on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

Pearl was raised in the home of her parents in Sanish and graduated from high school there, in the Class of 1931. She completed her education at Minot State Teachers College, earning her teaching certificate. Following college, she taught in the Verendrye and Maryville Township schools.

On June 7, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ernest M. Mongeon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Maryville Township, rural Rolette. The couple made their home near Rolette following their marriage, where they farmed and raised their five children.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Pearl was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a current member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rolette. Ernest died in 1970 and shortly after, she moved into Rolette, where she lived until 1998, when she moved to the Haaland Home in Rugby. In 2004, needing additional care, Pearl moved to the Heart of America Care Center.

Survivors include: three daughters, Diane (Willard) Johnson, of Grants Pass, Ore., Connie (Gale) Hamel, of Towner, and Corinne (Stan) Thompson, of Minot; two sons, David (Victoria), of Park River, and Daniel (Mary) of Rolette; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Charles and Joseph Breslin; four sisters, her twin, Ruby Kiser, Beulah Lugo, Bertha Belle Johnson and Alice Wallace; and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial: Will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rolette, with Fr. Philip Chacko as Celebrant.

Burial: In the spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery, rural Rolette.

Visitation: Will be Friday, Jan. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby, and for one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Saturday.

Rosary and vigil prayers: Will begin at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
