SHERWOOD – Mary F. “Mae” Rusch, 85, Sherwood, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at a Minot hospital.
Mary Frances was born March 28, 1927, in Moorhead, Minn., to Otto and Gertrude (Clark) Halde. Gertrude died in childbirth so Mae was raised by her uncle and aunt, John and Anna Wenker. She went to Hamlet School and attended Sherwood High School.
Mae married Arthur Rusch on Nov. 16, 1943, in Mohall. They lived and farmed in Colquhoun Township, west of Sherwood, for 49 years. Arthur died in January of 1993. Mae continued to live on the farm until her death.
Mae was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Sherwood, was active in the St. James Altar Society and served on the Bishop’s Diocesan Pastoral Council for many years. For many years, she grew flowers and made arrangements for the church. For many years, she also decorated cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions, for people throughout the community.
When her children were in school she was active in the Sherwood PTO and was a den mother for Boy Scouts.
Family: daughters, Anna Marie Hannel, Mandan, Loretta (Bill) Rush, Bismarck, Joan Rusch Fuller, Bismarck, and Beverly Rusch, Beulah; sons, David, Bonney Lake, Wash., John (Vicki), Minot, and Paul, Hazen; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral: Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 11 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church, Sherwood.
Rosary: Saturday, at 9 a.m., at the church.
Burial: Sherwood Union Cemetery, Sherwood, in the spring.
Visitation: Friday, Jan. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the church in Sherwood.
Memorials: Memorials are preferred to Assumption Abbey, Richardton.
