Minot man wins Super Bowl trip in contest

Local resident Fred Nelson was surprised to learn that online contests occasionally pay out. After ‘liking’ the Facebook page of New Era Cap makers of the officially endorsed NFL hat he was surprised to find himself the winner of two tickets to Super Bowl XLVII, to be held this weekend in New Orleans.

“It was one of those ‘Click here, enter to win’ things. It didn’t want any money or credit card information, so I entered,”said Nelson. Some weeks passed before he was unexpectedly received a phone call explaining he’d won the grand prize an extended weekend in New Orleans and a pair of tickets to the much-touted “HarBowl.” The coaches, Jim and John Harbaugh, will make NFL history as the first brothers to coach opposing teams in a Super Bowl.

“I’d forgotten all about it,” Nelson said, elated. His own brother will accompany him down on Thursday, where they will be put up for four nights at a hotel. “It’s like ten blocks from the Superdome, a block away from Bourbon and Canal. Right in the middle of things. We probably won’t even have to take a cab anywhere.”

It will be his first time visiting New Orleans, and “probably my only Super Bowl.” A Packers fan, Nelson does not have a preference which team wins.

“I’m just hoping for a good game,” he said.
