Leland Berg Grimson was born Sept. 21, 1917, to Nels and Julia (Berg) Grimson, on the family farm in New Home Township, Williams County. He was raised on the farm and attended New Home Township Country School. As a young man he worked on the family farm and later would make farming his life vocation.

He and a brother, Norman, started a trucking company in the fall and winter months and would haul grain and much needed coal to the area. The coal would come from the Baukol-Noonan mines and they would deliver right to the area homes in need. This kept the boys busy.

On May 29, 1942, Leland was united in marriage to Delores Hill in Sidney, Mont. The couple made their home on the farm north of Ray. Leland farmed the land, raising spring wheat and barley primarily over the years and retired in 1982 when he turned 65. In 1983, Leland and Delores moved to Williston, where they lived in their new home and have made Williston their home these many years. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 29, 2012.

He was a member of Rainbow Valley Lutheran Church and later attended First Lutheran Church. Leland was a baseball fan, always following the St. Louis Cardinals and the Minnesota Twins a little bit. He enjoyed playing whist, pinochle and bridge. He loved to visit and spend time with family and friends.

Leland is survived by: his wife, Delores, of Williston; son, Ron (Pat) Grimson, of Minot; granddaughter, Michelle (Stephen) Padgett, of Washington, D.C.; grandson, Brent Grimson, of Fargo; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Ross, Ella Padget and Beau Padgett; and great-great-granddaughter, Sofia Estrella.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, an infant and Dean in 1964; brother, Norman Grimson; sister, Avis Daniel, and twin sisters, Ruth Hoehn and Ruby Holden.

Friends may call at Fulkerson Funeral Home of Williston today, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, an hour prior to services, at Bethel Home.
