Eugene ‘Bud’ Grondahl
Eugene A. Grondahl, 80, Minot, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, in a Bismarck hospital.
Bud, as he was known to most, was born to August and Ida (Bauch) Grondahl on July 28, 1932, in Little Deep Township in McHenry County. He attended Grilley School before graduating from Glenburn High School in 1950.
He married Joann Corrine Johnson on Feb. 7, 1954, in Willow City. Bud worked in construction as a lather before returning to the family farm in the mid-’60s. Joann passed away Jan. 14, 1978.
On Jan. 2, 1979, Bud married Sharon (Natwick) Miller. They farmed together until moving to Bottineau in 1982, where he sold insurance for AAL.
Bud retired in 1994. Eventually he and Sharon moved to rural Minot in the summers and Donna, Texas, in the winters. This allowed for Bud’s most enjoyable activity, year-round golf. When he wasn’t golfing, you’d find him playing pool at the clubhouse in Texas or the Moose Lodge in Minot. Always part of Bud’s routine, coffee with friends took on greater importance as his eyesight failed. His last years were lived out at Somerset Court in Minot.
Bud loved his entire family, but had a special place in his heart for his daughter, Heidi whom he adored and took great care of until her passing in 2001.
Bud is survived by his wife, Sharon, Minot; sons, Kevin Grondahl, Berthold, Tim Grondahl (fiancee Geri Grant), Shane (Leanne) Grondahl and Wade Grondahl, all of Minot; daughter, Corrine Grondahl, Minot; stepson, Kevin (Kristie) Miller, Minot; stepdaughters, Tammy (Clint) Adams, Angier, N.C., Julie (Barry) Hall, Upham, Lori (Greg) LaHaise, Grand Forks, and Susan Millang, Auburn, Wash.; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Myron (Cheryl) Grondahl, Bismarck; sister, DeEtte Ferguson, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann; daughter, Heidi Lynn Grondahl; parents, August and Iva Grondahl; and sisters, Demaris (Harley) Pfau, Delores (Al) Stredwick, Doris (Harold) Welstad and Darlene (Lloyd) Welstad.
