KENMARE Ruth McDermott, 101, Mohall, formerly of the Kenmare/Sherwood area, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at a Mohall nursing home.
Ruth Emma Ovenden was born Dec. 20, 1911, south of Carnduff, Sask., to Joseph and Gladys (Allpress) Ovenden. She attended college in Grand Forks and Minot and taught at the North Prosperity School.
Ruth was united in marriage to Verle McDermott on May 31, 1937, in Minot. Following their marriage, they farmed in Prosperity Township, Renville County, for many years. In 1957, they moved to Kenmare and purchased several houses which they operated as rental property. Verle died May 25, 1996. Ruth entered the Good Samaritan nursing home, Mohall, in June of 1997.
Ruth was an active member of Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare.
Family: son, David (Cathy) McDermott, Minot; grandson, Justin McDermott, Minot; and the kind staff of the Good Samaritan Society, Mohall, who cared for her the past 15 years.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral: Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare.
Burial: Sherwood Union Cemetery, Sherwood, in the spring.
Visitation: Today, 3 to 5 p.m., at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall.
