Ward County to receive flood money

WASHINGTON, D.C. A $1.1 million federal grant for flood recovery will assist with the buyout of six properties in Ward County, North Dakota’s congressional delegation announced Thursday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program will provide the money to the state to buy five properties in Logan and one in Burlington that experienced significant flood damage and are at risk for future flooding.

“Unfortunately, the 2011 flooding across North Dakota caused terrible damage to many properties. This funding will help families and communities recover,” the delegation said in a joint statement. “Our communities have made great progress since the flooding, and we will continue to work to see that state and local officials are getting the cooperation they deserve from federal agencies.”

The state’s delegation includes Sens. John Hoeven, R-N.D., and Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., and Congressman Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.
