Carr, Walters pass career milestone

Hazen High School basketball guard Stetson Carr passed the career 1,000-point mark during a Feb. 5 game against Killdeer.

After games against Center-Stanton and Shiloh Christian last weekend, Carr has 1,059 career varsity points.

On Monday, North Shore girls basketball player Tessa Walters passed the same milestone. Walters poured in a game-high 28 points in a 59-48 victory over Burke County.

Tetons returning to nationals

The Williston State College men’s hockey team clinched a return trip to the NJCAA national tournament with a 6-4 road win over Dakota College at Bottineau on Sunday.

Colby Spoonemore notched a hat trick for the Tetons (16-13), who won their second consecutive Region 13 championship. The national tournament will be held Feb. 23-25 in Rochester, N.Y.

WSC hosts Arizona State in its regular-season finale at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Agri Sports Complex.

UND baseball team joins WAC

The Western Athletic Conference announced Monday that the University of North Dakota will join the league in baseball beginning in the 2013-14 academic year.

UND joins fellow Great West Conference members Chicago State, Northern Colorado, Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley as additions to the WAC next season.

“I’m thrilled to be going into a league that has a name as prestigious as the WAC,” UND head coach Jeff Dodson said in a press release. “This is a great day for UND baseball.”

The additions will make the WAC a 10-team league for baseball.

UND opens its season on Monday, when it begins a four-game series with Mount Mary College.

Lions pull away from Parshall

PARSHALL – The top-ranked Bishop Ryan girls basketball team got 18 points from sophomore Gabbie Bohl and 17 from junior Anika Rovig in a 67-40 blowout of Parshall on Monday.

The Lions (16-0) outscored the Braves in each quarter to gradually pull away. The most lopsided quarter was the third, when Ryan scored 18 points to Parshall’s eight.

Michelle Risan scored 18 to lead the Braves and Cheyenne Packineau added 10.

Sophomore forward Hannah Stewart chipped in 12 points for Ryan, which hosts Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood at 7:15 tonight.
