Hope Village seeks volunteers for Feb. 23 build day
Hope Village invites local and area volunteers to assist in rebuilding flooded homes during a rebuild day Feb. 23.
The village’s Hope Builders program will tackle three rebuilding projects in two shifts. From 9 a.m. to noon and from noon to 3 p.m., volunteers will hang Sheetrock, put up insulation or perform general carpentry work on multiple homes.
Individuals and teams can register by calling 500-5206 or emailing (firstname.lastname@example.org). Volunteers should register by 5 p.m. on Thursday and arrive at Hope Village a half an hour early to sign in. Hope Village will provide all tools for the jobs.
Hope Village is located at 3705-11th St. SW, behind Our Savior Lutheran Church and about a quarter-mile west of Walmart.
As part of the National Day of Service on Jan. 19, 40 volunteers with Hope Builders worked in five homes, scrubbing and sanitizing, taking up carpet and nails, painting, framing, installing flooring and other rebuild tasks. Because of the effort’s success, Hope Village plans to hold a monthly Hope Builders weekend in Minot. Next month’s weekend will be March 16.
Hope Village houses and provides meals for out-of-town teams who travel to Minot to assist in the rebuild but it also coordinates jobs for local volunteers who want to help.
Hope Village has coordinated jobs for close to 3,000 volunteers since April 2012, but the need continues. According rebuild partner, Lutheran Disaster Response, there are still 118 homes waiting for volunteers.
