Alice Volk, 83, of Harvey, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. The funeral mass will be Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be today, Feb. 18, from 2 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.
Alice was born May 25, 1929, on the family farm near Selz. She was the daughter of Emanuel and Rose (Kraft) Fettig. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school.
Alice married Daniel Volk on Sept. 27, 1948, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selz, and they lived and farmed in the Harvey area. They retired in 1993 and moved into Harvey.
Alice enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was an avid pinochle player. She also loved to entertain and would treat family and friends to chocolate chip cookies, kuchen, home canned goods and German cooking.
Alice was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Harvey Senior Citizens.
Alice is survived by: her husband, Daniel; daughter, JoAnn (Corey) Flick, of Burlington; two sons, Robert (Marie), of Harvey, and Wayne, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters, Florence Selensky, of Anaconda, Mont., Mary Burgard, of Page, Regina Fetzer, of Jamestown, Julie Sullivan, of Des Moines, Iowa; four brothers, Joe Fettig, of Minneapolis, Minn., Emanuel Fettig, of Fargo, David Fettig, of Bloomfield, Colo., and John Fettig, of Dallas, Texas.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard; brothers, Edward, Edmund, Adam, Herbert and Louie; and siblings dying in infancy were Joseph, Rosina and Maria.
