MSU choirs present Winter Tour concert

The Minot State University Concert Choir, Women’s Chorus and MSU Singers will present a Winter Tour concert Sunday at 3 p.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall on the Minot State University campus.

Special guests will be the Velva school chorus under the direction of Bob Demke. The high school choir will be featured singing five pieces from their own concert repertoire and will combine with MSU’s Concert Choir for an arrangement of Taylor Davis’ “How Can I Keep From Singing.”

Also featured on the evening’s concert will be music from the upcoming concert tour presented by the concert choir and women’s chorus. The concert choir, under the direction of Kenneth Bowles, will perform works from many periods and styles. Monteverdi’s “Hear the Murmuring Waters,” Debussy’s “Trois Chansons D’Orlean” and the Peter Louis van Dijk’s “Horizons” feature the unaccompanied choir, while Robert Schumann’s “Zigeunerleben” will feature pianist DeVera Bowles.

The women’s chorus, under the direction of Cherie Collins, will perform contemporary composer Dan Forrest’s “Psalm 8,” which features violinist Kate Dalbey. It will also perform the beautiful setting of “Ave Maria” by Guy Forbes.

The MSU Singers, directed by Rebecca Petrik, will sing madrigals and lighter pieces for vocal ensemble.

Sunday’s concert precedes a concert tour which will include Beulah, Harvey, Jamestown and Devils Lake, before concluding in Winnipeg, Man.

As with all of the division of music concerts, there is no charge and the public is invited.
