Marcella Brandvold, 66, Ryder, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Marcella Kathlene Hanson was born June 21, 1946, the daughter of Kenneth and Myrtle (Ronning) Hanson, in Minot. She was raised on the Hanson family farm located in Vang Township of Ward County, near Des Lacs, and attended Vang Township School #3. She graduated from Des Lacs High School in 1964.
She then attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis for a year. Her father passed away that year and she moved back home to help her mother with raising her younger siblings.
Marcella married Paul Brandvold on June 4, 1966, in Rose Valley Lutheran Church, rural Des Lacs. They made their home on a farm located in Vang Township of Ward County, six miles south of where she was raised. They farmed small grains and raised livestock. She cooked for Farmers Home Cafe during the N.D. State Fair for more than 10 years. She also worked as a cook for the South Prairie School for a time.
She was a member of Rose Valley Lutheran Church, rural Des Lacs, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and was a member of its ladies aid and quilting group. She was also a member of Vang Township Board, where she served as the clerk, and the Ryder Homemakers Club.
She loved to sing, listen to music, cooking, baking, canning, gardening and babysitting nieces and nephews. She also loved supporting family at the Nodak and McLean County speedways. She was known for her angel food cake, scotcheroos, potato salad, banana bread and chokecherry jelly.
Her loving family includes: husband of 46 years, Paul, Ryder; children, Clifford Brandvold, Ryder, Paula Brandvold, Minot, Philip (Jen) Brandvold, Ryder, Crystal Brandvold, Minot; grandchildren, Kylie Hemstad, Kody Hemstad; brothers, Kent (Jill) Hanson, Des Lacs, Klint (Nancy) Hanson, Berthold, Keith (Linda) Hanson, Minot, and Pasco, Wash., and Kelvin (Claudia) Hanson, Fife, Wash.; sisters, Marcia (Ernest) Raszler, Ryder, Marlene (Don) Weikart, Buckley, Wash., Marian (Mark) Spurling, Bonney Lake, Wash.; sister-in-law, Jeanne Hanson, Des Lacs; aunt, Huldah Tiller, Mohall; as well as Paul’s brother and sister. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Marcella was preceded in death by: her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Julius and Alice Brandvold; brother, Kurt Hanson; nephew, James Raszler; brother-in-law, Elmer Mason.
Funeral: Thursday, March 14, at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rose Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Des Lacs.
Prayer service: Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Rose Valley Lutheran Church, rural Des Lacs or to Trinity Health Foundation, Minot.
