Prairie Warrior auction benefits Minot AFB service members, families

Minot Air Force Base activities benefit from the annual Prairie Warrior Association Auction held in Minot each year.

This year’s 27th annual event is set for Saturday, March 23, in the Holiday Inn Riverside. Preview of the auction items begins at 5:30 p.m., with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres served. The auction, with auctioneer John Bearman, of Minot, begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $25 per person.

The auction is sponsored annually by the Minot Area Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Committee.

Throughout the years, the auction has raised more than a half-million dollars to support Minot AFB activities, including competition teams, squadron activities, annual awards banquets, Operation Warmheart, the year-round program that provides food, clothing and other essential items to needy service members and their families, and for Thanksgiving baskets during the holiday season.

Deadline for items

The deadline for contributions to the auction has been extended to March 21, said Betty Fedorchak, Minot, auction chairwoman.

An oval-shaped cognac diamond necklace from Knowles Jewelry in Minot has been contributed to this year’s auction.

Some of the other contributions include gift certificates, baskets filled with items, six-melody wall clock, season golf pass at the former Minot Country Club, hotel stays, Norsk Hostfest and Sawyer Brown (at State Fair) tickets, family or grandparent Roosevelt Park Zoo pass, family YMCA membership, lasagna dinner for 10, artwork, sports apparel and other items, a brushed nickel faucet and outdoor cooking or serving items.

“Individuals may also contribute to this worthy cause,” Fedorchak pointed out, adding, “We love the ‘unexpected’ type of contribution.”

She said businesses, individuals or organizations who feel they have nothing to contribute can purchase Chamber Bucks at the Chamber Office. The Chamber Bucks are accepted at any Chamber member business.
