Lorenz leads Tetons to first-round win

SALINA, Kan. – Maggie Lorenz’s double-double helped Williston State upset North Idaho College 67-63 in the first round of the NJCAA tournament on Monday.

Lorenz, a Harvey native, pumped in a game-high 20 points to go with 16 rebounds to boost the Tetons, who face undefeated Shelton County (32-0) at 8:30 tonight.

“I felt coming in we were going to get this win and I’m so proud of the way the ladies played tonight,” WSC coach Luanne Axelson said in a press release. “This is a big win for our program and shows we can play with anyone.”

Tetons guard Jazzmine Robinson shook off committing eight of her team’s 18 turnovers to hit a pair of game-clinching free-throws. She finished with 12 points.

Williston High product Jackie Lee also reached double figures for the Tetons, tallying 11 points. Wasburn alum Samantha Schell (9) and Kenmare grad Kate King (8) rounded out the Tetons’ top scorers.

Katie Buskey had 19 points for North Idaho, which was ranked as high as No. 1 during this season and won the 2011 national championship.
