Thomas Ralph “Thom” Mellum, 52, lifelong Minot resident, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in his home.
Thom was born March 12, 1961, in Minot, to Markus and Mona Lou (Miller) Mellum. He was reared in Minot and graduated from Bishop Ryan High School in 1979. Thom was employed by Bechtold Excavating, Ward County as a jailer and emergency management coordinator, Don Bessette Motors and CarQuest, all in Minot.
Thom, known as “Wildfire” by his friends, especially enjoyed softball with the McQuade Tournament being a highlight, tailgating at MSU football games, open microphones and was a closet comedian. He was always there to help and he took great pride in making people smile or laugh, and helping to establish the Minot Area Emergency Resource Council.
Thom is survived by his sister, Barb (Bryce) Leigh, of Colleyville, Texas, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thom was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve Mellum.
Social Gathering: Today, Wednesday, March 20, starting at 6 p.m. in the Barley Pop, Minot.
