Juanita C. (Nordrum) Erickson, 77, of Fargo, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 18, 2013, at Sanford Palliative Care after a lengthy illness.
Juanita was born March 20, 1935, to Iver and LaVina (Frost) Nordrum at their home in Waskish, Minn., just yards away from her favorite fishing spot, Upper Red Lake. When Juanita was 4 her mother passed away leaving 11 children. Juanita was then raised by her foster parents, Peter and Bertha Halvorson. She attended grade school in Waskish and later graduated from Kelliher High School in 1953. After graduating, she moved to Kenmare and worked at the J.C. Penney store. It was during this time that she met and married Lyle Erickson. They were married in Waskish at the Baptist church on July 7, 1954.
Juanita and Lyle made their home for a short time in Kenmare, then moved to Malta, Mont., Savage, Mont., Coteau and then back to Kenmare for various job opportunities. During these years, they were blessed with four children. Juanita’s children and grandchildren were her life and joy. She leaves a legacy of faith, family, self-sacrifice and strength. She was strong in her faith and has passed on the importance of trusting God for all things.
While living in Kenmare, Juanita and Lyle were very involved in Faith Baptist Church. They were the youth group leaders for many years, influencing many young lives. Juanita’s special gift was hospitality. Family, friends and many stranded travelers were welcomed into her home. She loved to cook, bake and entertain. She was also an adventurous person, loving to travel and experience new things.
In 1989, Juanita and Lyle moved to the Fargo area and they resided there until the present time. Juanita loved the woods of northern Minnesota where she could be on the lake with the wind in her face, while enjoying her favorite activity, fishing for walleyes.
She will be greatly missed by all those who love her.
