Statewide variety show coming to Stanley in April

STANLEY – Fargo production company Prairie Airwaves has announced that the live variety program “Dakota Air: The Radio Show” will be performed in Stanley at the Sibyl Center at 2 p.m. on April 7. The live performance will be recorded for broadcast later in the month on Prairie Public’s statewide radio network.

“What a wonderful way to spend a spring weekend; bringing such a fun variety show to my hometown,” said the show’s executive producer Merrill Piepkorn, who was born and spent his early childhood in Stanley, in a media release. Piepkorn, who now lives in Fargo, has been long known statewide and beyond as a media personality, event host and performer, including frontman for The Radio Stars, a country-western band that has gained regional acclaim.

“The Sibyl Center is excited to join the many other communities that have hosted Dakota Air to celebrate their talent culture in a live show that will be broadcast to the entire state,” said Janinne Paulson of Stanley, the Sibyl Center’s local coordinator, in the release. Area folks who have seen Merrill and the Radio Stars have had only a taste of their high-quality, energetic show. Add the entire Dakota Air cast and show, and you can be sure the day will be filled with great music, comedy, and lots of fun for the whole family.”

Dakota Air: The Radio Show is a live variety show performed in various locations throughout North Dakota to entertain and inspire audiences while highlighting the talents, history and culture of the region. Each performance is recorded for later broadcast on statewide radio. The April 7 edition of the show in Stanley is scheduled to air at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, on all Prairie Public radio stations statewide.

The show follows an old-fashioned radio variety format featuring music, as well as original comedy by professional acting company “The Dakota Airheads” under the creative direction of humorist and writer Steve Stark. In addition, crowd favorite “Mr. History” will illustrate some fascinating tidbits about Stanley and Mountrail County.

Local guest stars for the April 7 performance will include longtime Stanley favorites, Stan Wright and Gordy Patten, singer-songwriter Morgan Hauge of New Town and Stanley high-school vocalist Kayla Lapica, according to the release.

Tickets for the April 7 performance are $15 in advance and are available now at Dakota West Credit Union, Gooseneck Implement and Prairie Outfitters. Additional information and tickets are also available by contacting Paulson at 628-3339.

“Seating is extremely limited in the intimate setting of the Sibyl Center and it will sell out fast, so if you want to get to this great show, please get your tickets early,” Piepkorn said.
