Beavers crush U-Mary in NSIC opener

BISMARCK – Senior Tiffany Friesen and junior Jen Dixon provided more offense than the Minot State University softball team would need in 11-2 and 12-2 victories over University of Mary on Thursday.

Friesen and Dixon each recorded multi-HR games and both finished with three homers in the doubleheader sweep. The Beavers recorded eight home runs in the two games.

“We definitely have some pop at the top of our lineup,” MSU coach Bill Triplett said in a press release. “Jen is leading the nation in hitting and just getting every piece of the ball nearly every time up. With how our pitching staff has been, we haven’t needed many runs, but today it was the hitters making it easy for the pitchers.”

The Beavers scored six runs in the second inning as Friesen connected on a two-run home run to cap off the top half of the frame. Dixon hit a two-run homer in the fourth and a solo shot in the sixth.

The second game was more of the same as Dixon gave the Beavers a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Friesen recorded a home run in the fourth and fifth innings as the Beavers scored five runs in each frame.

MSU plays Sioux Falls today at 3/5 p.m. at the U-Mary softball field.
