MSU men first, women third at Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Neb. – Senior Matt Procyshen shot a one-under 71 for the Minot State University men’s golf team, which won the Bellevue University Tri-Match on Wednesday.

The Beavers recorded the top three scores of the day en route to a total round 295, 18 strokes in front of Iowa Western Community College. Host Bellevue University did not compete.

MSU Senior Marion Hernandez shot a 72 and sophomore Kowan O’Keefe finished with a 74.

“Our guys played smart today and took some chances at the right moments,” MSU coach Chipper Farrell said in a press release. “Anytime we can get our score under 300, it’s a good day. Hopefully we can continue to improve and our best golf is still in front of us.”

Junior Mackenzie Nagel shot a team-best 77, but the women’s team finished third, shooting a total round 344.

Nagel’s 77 was the third best score of the day behind Bellevue’s Natalie Soria (76) and Maria Saavedra (73) at the par-72 course.

“Mackenzie was really playing a solid game today,” MSU coach Whitney Aberle said in a press release. “She didn’t make too many mistakes and when she did she rebounded nicely and hit some impressive shots.”

The Beavers finished 13 strokes behind Iowa Western Community College and 39 strokes behind Bellevue.

The men’s team tees off at the Upper Iowa University Invite on April 6-8 and the women compete in the Augustana College Spring Invite on April 13-14 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
