Hazel Solemsaas, 71, Minot, and formerly of Sherwood, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in a Bismarck hospital.
Hazel was born March 29, 1942, in Seattle, to Lloyd and Luella (Seibert) Armstrong. She was reared on the family farm in Hamerly Township of Renville County near Sherwood, graduated from Sherwood High School in 1960 and continued her education at North Dakota State University in Fargo.
Hazel married Layne Solemsaas on Oct. 9, 1965, in the Sherwood Methodist Church. They made their home in Minot, where Hazel began working for the City of Minot in 1968 and retired in 2003 as a billing clerk in the Water Department. Layne died on Dec. 22, 2001.
Hazel was an active member of Vincent United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star. She especially enjoyed baking, gardening, reading, outings with her “support” group and spending time with her grandchildren.
Hazel’s loving family includes: her children, Jeff (Brenda) Solemsaas, of Bismarck, and Brad (Gina) Solemsaas, of Bismarck; grandchildren, Emerson Eve, Jonelle Evelyn, Camden Layne and Kaden Lloyd Solemsaas; and several cousins, including Polly (George) Benshoof, of Minot, and goddaughter, Sally Vanerstrom.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and infant brother.
Celebration of the Life of Hazel Solemsaas: Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.
Graveside service: Later this spring in the Mohall Community Cemetery.
Visitation: Friday, April 5, from 2 to 7 p.m., in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Are preferred to the American Diabetes Association or Vincent United Methodist Church.
