MOHALL Virginia “Ginger” Gates, 85, of Mohall and Mouse River Park, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at a Mohall nursing home.
Ginger was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Graceville, Minn., a daughter of Rienhart and Anna Louise (Butt) Krenz. At the age of 2, she moved with her family to North Dakota. She attended Grover Township School and graduated from Mohall High School in 1945. She attended the North Dakota Agricultural College, Fargo, and Minot State.
Ginger married Alfred “Tud” Gates on Aug. 17, 1946, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Mohall. They farmed in Hurley and Hamerly townships of Renville County for many years. Tud died May 9, 2000. Ginger lived at Mouse River Park prior to residing at Edgewood Vista in Minot. She entered the Good Samaritan Society, Mohall, in January of this year.
Ginger was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Mohall, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, and taught catechism classes. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Family: daughters, Linda (Leon) Overby, Mohall, Rebecca (Theodore) Artz, Lyleton, Man., and Miriam (Larry) Wilder, Williston; grandchildren, Ryan (Crystal) Overby, Jason (Cheryl) Overby, Andrea (Marty) Murray, Paul (Carolyne) Artz, Matthew Artz, Katie (Steven) Cowan, Chase Theige and Chirsty Theige; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Darwin Krenz, Tioga; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three children; brother, Paul Krenz; and sister, Jackie Vanvig.
Funeral: Monday, April 8, 2013, at 11 a.m., at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Mohall.
Burial: Mohall Community Cemetery, later in the spring.
Rosary: Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 7 p.m., at the church.
Visitation: Sunday noon to 5 p.m., at Brose Funeral Home, Mohall.
