Beavers offense silenced in sweep

WINONA, Minn – The Minot State University softball team was swept for the first time this season after running into dominant pitching by Winona State on Sunday.

The Warriors (22-6 overall, 7-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) shut out the Beavers 4-0 in game one before completing the doubleheader sweep with a 4-2 victory in game two.

“We ran into two good pitchers and didn’t make enough adjustments to win these two games,” MSU coach Bill Triplett said in a press release. “We started to get things going in game two, but it was too little too late. We just didn’t seem to get that key hit we have been getting all year.”

The Beavers (26-5, 8-4) were held scoreless for 13 innings before scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning in game two. Junior Katie Backes and sophomore Ali Cygan each recorded an RBI.

WSU pitchers Britt Stewart, Ashley Walker and Michelle Lund didn’t allow an extra-base hit in the two-game sweep.

The Beavers travel to Northern State (S.D.) on Wednesday for a pair of NSIC games starting at 2 p.m.
