Earl Bernett Hetland

Earl B. Hetland, 88, Deering, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Autumn Leaves Adult Care Center in The Woodlands, Texas.

Earl Bernett Hetland was born Aug. 8, 1924, to Austin and Osmunda Hetland in Canton, S.D. The family moved to North Dakota when Earl was 2 years old. He grew up on the family farm. He attended grade school at the Grilley School and graduated from Glenburn High School in 1942.

On Nov. 15, 1944, Earl enlisted in the Navy. He proudly served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1946.

Earl was united in marriage to Lola Gay Semingson on June 5, 1949. They made their home on their farm in Grilley Township.

Earl was active on St. Olaf Lutheran Church Council, rural Deering, and served on the school board at the Grilley School and at Glenburn School serving as president of all three for many years. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, hunting, and most of all, his family.

He is survived by: his wife; four sons, Ronald (Tracy) Hetland, Gary Hetland, Arden (Donna) Hetland, and Dennis (Patricia) Hetland; eight grandchildren, Jason (Denise) Hetland, Alaina (Curtis) Golen, Gerud (Michelle) Hetland, Heath Hetland, Laura (Ritchey) Wheeler, Kristen (Jordan) Porter, Trista Hetland, and Tyler Hetland; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother, Milton (Carol) Hetland.

He was preceded in death by: father, Austin; mother, Osmunda; three sisters, Ida Bagley, Selma Orndarf, Ione Clute; brother, Arthur; daughter-in-law, Denise Hetland; father-in-law, Gilbert Semingson; and mother-in-law, Lela Semingson.

Memorial service: Will be at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 2 p.m.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however, people may sign a guest register on Sunday, one hour prior to the service, in the church.

A private burial will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural Deering.

Memorials: Are preferred to St. Olaf Cemetery, rural Deering, or Zion Lutheran Church Organ Fund, Minot.
