Visitation will continue today, one hour prior to the service, in the church.

DeLores Genevieve Whitehead was born June 9, 1925, to Hugh and Bessie (Zietz) McLeod in Minot. She lived her childhood years with her Grandpa Carl and Grandma Zietz. DeLores attended school in Lansford, and also in Kingsville, LaMonte, and Springfield, Mo.

DeLores was united in marriage to Charles Hubert Whitehead on March 18, 1942, in Warrensburg, Mo. In 1944, Hubert entered the Army. When he entered the service DeLores moved to Milbank to live with her aunt, Mary Zietz, until she could establish a new home for Hubert and herself. Her first job was at the local bakery, then at Bleser Drug Store, and in 1947, she was asked to work at the Milbank J.C. Penney store, a career she continued until the store closed its doors.

DeLores was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women. Very active in the square dance club “Old Mill Twirlers,” DeLores and Hubert danced every week as well as joining out of town clubs whenever they could. Country music was favored! They enjoyed traveling and DeLores visited all but eight of the U.S. states. One of their favorite destinations was Branson, Mo., which they visited often, and they always admired the varied decorations. The home they made together was DeLores’ pride and joy.

DeLores died on April 8, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Milbank, having reached the age of 87.

DeLores is survived by: her sisters, Margaret (Lloyd) Undlin, and Mildred (Donald) Abernathey, both of Lansford; nieces and nephews, Ava Abernathey (Doug Trengen), of Bottineau; Guy Abernathey, of New York City; Jay (Rhonda) Abernathey, of Lansford; Ronald (Peggy) Undlin, of Lansford; Curtis (Irva) Undlin, of Lansford; and Margo Undlin, of Bismarck; first cousins, Karen Marie Schwarz and Marjean Schulz, both of Ankeny, Iowa; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
