Richard D. Iverson, 63, Minot, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, in his home, with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Richard Dwight Iverson was born Sept. 17, 1949, in Fessenden, the oldest of six children born to Wallace and Shirley (Kramer) Iverson. The family moved to Minot in 1958, where Richard attended St. Leo’s School and graduated from Bishop Ryan High School in 1967.
Richard was once married to Phyllis Schaan. They relocated to Redondo Beach, Calif., in 1969. During their marriage, they were blessed with twin daughters, DeAnn and Kristi. Richard later returned to Minot, where he was employed by Nash Finch Co. as a truck driver for more than 35 years.
Richard loved the outdoors. Spending time fishing with his father at the lake and riding his motorcycle were two of his most treasured pastimes. He especially loved riding through the mountains and enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness of nature.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Richard is survived by: Twin daughters, DeAnn (Robert) Mayer, Forest Lake, Minn., Kristi (Rafe) Garofalo, Lino Lakes, Minn.; grandchildren, Cole, Kennedy and Jacob Mayer, Anna Garofalo; brother, Michael (Michelle) Iverson, Douglasville, Ga.; sisters, Patricia (Bruce) Beecher, Hazen, Connie Iverson, Minot, Mary (Michael) Mohl, Zap, and Janet (Derek) Bakken, Halstad, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Shirley; and a great-niece, Haley Iverson.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, April 19, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot.
Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden.
Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however, friends may sign a guest register on Thursday, April 18, from 6 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Vigil prayer service: Thursday at 7 p.m. in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
