Baucus’s shocking comment

It was certainly a bit shocking last week to hear Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., describe the ongoing implementation of the nation’s new health care bill as a “train wreck.”

Shocking, considering Baucus helped write President Barack Obama’s health care law and shocking that Baucus, the chairman of the Senate finance committee, would share such a blunt opinion at a public hearing.

Some of Baucus’ criticism was leveled at Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Baucus told her that the administration has done a poor job of informing the public about the health care law, and expressed concern that the law’s new health insurance marketplaces for consumers and small businesses will not be ready in time in every state.

Granted, Baucus is facing a re-election campaign in 2014, and residents in Montana haven’t exactly been happy with the new health care law. Still, hearing such a high-ranking Democrat express that level of concern and pessimism over Obama’s health care law was unusual, to say the least.

We agree with Baucus, by the way, that the nation is facing some major issues with the continued implementation of Obamacare, we were glad to hear someone like Baucus share those concerns in such a forceful and public manner.
