Lloyd Opstedal

Lloyd Henry Opstedal, the son of Fred and Betsy (Kjorvestad) Opstedal, was born July 12, 1912, in Kohlmeier Township, Rolette County. He died at the age of 100 on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

Lloyd was raised in the rural Rolette home of his parents and received his education at Dewey School #2 in Rolette County. On Nov. 2, 1940, he was united in marriage to Muriel Tuff, of Rugby, at Rolla Lutheran Parsonage in Rolla. Their son, Daryl, was born Nov. 11, 1942. The couple purchased a farm in Finnegan Township in 1943, where they raised their son, Daryl, farmed and made their home.

Lloyd was a member of First Lutheran Church in Rugby, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Rugby and for many years a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Minot. In 1987, the couple retired from the everyday farming operations and moved to Rugby. He enjoyed dancing, card parties, visiting with friends and listening to his son’s band. But most of all, he loved farming and spending time with his wife and family.

He is survived by: his wife of 72 years, Muriel; grandchildren, Darren (Barb), Jeff (Vicki), Brion, all of Rolette, Dale, of Minot, and Melissa (David “DJ”) Anderson, of Rugby; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella Lunde, of Rugby; brothers-in-law, Ralph Berg and Dennis (Lore) Tuff, both of Rugby; sisters-in-law, Lois Tuff, of Rugby, and Bing Shuley, of Pullman, Wash.; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daryl; his parents; sister, Tena Berg; and brothers, Roy, Stanley and Nels.

Funeral services: Will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in Rugby, with spring burial in Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby. Pastor Mike Pretzer will officiate.

Visitation and prayer service: Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, April 21, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby, with a prayer service today beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday for one hour prior to the time of services at the church.
