USF shuts down MSU baseball team

YANKTON, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls had two pitchers record seven-inning complete games in a pair of wins Sunday over the Minot State University baseball team.

Derek Fischer picked up the win in game one, striking out 10 while giving up six hits in the Cougars’ 5-1 victory. Eric Brothers tossed a one-hitter in game two, a 10-0 USF win.

“We didn’t play to the level we are capable of playing at any aspect of the games today,” MSU coach Brock Weppler said in a press release. “Hitters needed to do a better job of making adjustments at the plate.”

Senior Mitch Olson was the lone Beaver to record a multiple-hit game, collecting two singles in game one.

USF (15-19 overall, 10-10 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) also swept the Beavers on Saturday, winning 7-0 and 10-7.

MSU (10-16, 2-10) travels to Augustana College (S.D.) on Wednesday.
