Thomas Huff

Thomas Arthur Huff, 85, of Minot, passed away April 22, 2013, in Minot.

Tom was born in Minot on May 17, 1927, to Ruby (Bergo) and Claude Huff. He was the fourth of 10 children and was raised on the family farm near Donnybrook.

Tom enlisted in the Navy and served just as World War II was ending. When he returned to Donnybrook, his dad convinced him a young man’s brightest future was with the railroad. Tom worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 50 years. He was a depot agent in Karlsruhe, Niobe, Four Buttes, Mont., Wolford, Perth, St. John, Rolla, Devils Lake and Gavin Yard in Minot.

Tom was united in marriage to Bonnie Stroklund on Sept. 20, 1958, in Donnybrook. They were married for 55 years and together raised four children.

Tom was known for his dedication to his family, his delight in young children, his willingness to help anyone in need and for the satisfaction he derived from doing an honest day’s work. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and an annual fishing trip to northern Canada with his son.

Tom liked road trips and embarked on many driving vacations with his wife and children. After his retirement, he continued to prefer work to hobbies, and especially enjoyed working in his yard. He bought a farm near Donnybrook where he raised registered Red Angus. He liked to fence his pasture and was happiest when helping his brother, Bob, farm the home place.

Tom was preceded in death by twin infant sons, Brian and Blain; daughter-in-law, Eleanor Huff; his parents, Ruby and Claude Huff; brothers, Dayton, Guy and Ralph Huff; sister, Jeanne Kaufer; brother-in-law, Warren Paulson; and a sister-in-law, Amelia Huff.
