Joey Carpentier, 69, Minot, died on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in a Minot hospital.
Joey was born on Jan. 11, 1944, in Crosby, the only son of six children born to Earl and Mabel Carpentier. He was raised on the family farm near Portal. He attended school in Portal and graduated from Portal High School in 1962. Joey attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, where he received specialized training in plumbing.
Joey was inducted into the Army on Jan. 14, 1965, and served until his honorable discharge on Dec. 27, 1966. He returned to North Dakota, where he was employed by the Burlington Northern Railway as a diesel mechanic until the time of his retirement.
Joey married Hertha Kastrow on Dec. 31, 1976. They made their home in Minot. Hertha died on Feb. 24, 2004.
Joey especially enjoyed fishing, socializing and gardening. He was an avid gardener who was happy to share the fruits of his labor with family and friends.
Joey is survived by: his daughter, Sandy Carpentier, of Minot; grandson, Joey Earl Carpentier, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sisters, Kay (Sam) Altringer, of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Judie (Robert) Soiseth, of Forsyth, Mont., Marilyn (Dennis) Pfleiger, of Vancouver, Wash., Erlene (Steve) Abraham, of Butte, Mont., and Monica (John) Wolfe, of Billings, Mont.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joey was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Graveside service: Friday, April 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
