Minot Daily News earns awards

The Minot Daily News and individual staff members won numerous awards in the 2012 Better Newspaper Contest, put on by the North Dakota Newspaper Association.

The Minot Daily News is in the 12,001 and up circulation bracket, competing with the Bismarck Tribune, Grand Forks Herald, and The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead.

The Minot Daily News won third place in the category of Overall Design Excellence. Staff writers Kim Fundingsland and Adam Lawson took first place in the categories of Personal Column – Humorous and Sports Feature, respectively. Jill Schramm picked up an honorable mention in the Reporting category.

The advertising staff took home 12 awards and an honorable mention. Lindsey Enander took first place in Single Ad, while Sheila Melaas took second-place awards in Vehicle Ad and Agricultural Ad.

Elaine Gunderson took second place in the Entertainment/Liquor Ad and Single Ad categories, and third place in both Use of Color and Apparel Ad.

Donita Magnuson nearly swept the Financial Ad category, taking first and second place, with an additional honorable mention. She also took first place in Entertainment/Liquor Ad, second place in Political Ad, and third place in Health Care Ad.
