Garbage truck destroyed by fire
Some residents of Holiday Village Mobile Home Park on 27th Street Southeast evacuated their homes and gathered around to watch as firefighters put out a fire that had fully engulfed a Waste Management garbage truck Monday morning.
It is unknown what caused the fire. The driver of the truck reported that he was just doing his collection rounds when the truck began to smoke. He exited the truck and called the police. It wasn’t long before the home at lot 1009, which the truck was parked directly in front of, also caught fire due to the heat. Minot Police officer Aaron Moss, the first officer on the scene, described the damage to the home as “mainly cosmetic,” meaning that the fire did not spread to inside the dwelling. Other homes in the area were undamaged, although the siding became slightly warped from the heat on the house directly across the street. Firefighters had the fire put out shortly before 11 a.m.
