Ryan junior gets golf qualifier

GARRISON – Bishop Ryan junior Kalan Elm shot a 75 for the third-best score among seven Class B state qualifiers at the Garrison Invitational on Monday.

“He had six birdies, a triple bogey and double bogey,” Ryan coach Chuck Finneman said. “If you had gotten those out of there, he’d have looked real good. (He) made a few mistakes and got in a little trouble with the trees.”

Northern Lights had three players qualify in the co-op’s win with 304 strokes. Ryan finished second with 332, Rugby was third at 336 and Our Redeemer’s Christian School took fourth at 342.

Dunseith’s Dalton Poitra shot par with a 72 to lead all golfers at the Garrison Municipal Golf Course. Northern Light’s Nick Myhre took second with a 74.

Our Redeemer’s Christian School senior Logan Sorum led the Knights with an 85.
