Honoring N.D.’s fallen heroes

North Dakota’s fallen heroes 21 military members who are part of the “Remember Our Fallen of North Dakota” touring photo display were honored Monday noon with a ceremony including reading of their names.

The ceremony officially opened the exhibit outside Scheels Hunting and Fishing store in Dakota Square Mall in Minot.

Capt. Steven Bohl, officer in charge of the North Dakota National Guard’s 164th Engineer Battalion in Minot, and emcee for the ceremony, recognized family members of those fallen attending, including Doug Smette, Makoti, father of Sgt. Keith Smette; DuWayne Hendrickson, Minot, brother of Staff Sgt. Kenneth Hendrickson; and Adrienne Linde, Devils Lake, wife of Sgt. Darren Linde.

Medal of Honor recipient Clint Romesha, his wife Tammy with two of their children, of Minot, also were recognized.

A flag ceremony and bugler were presented by Minot’s American Legion Post 26.

During the ceremony Bohl read the names of the 21 military members.

The photo display honors military members who have died from wounds suffered in a war zone since Sept. 11, 2001. The N.D. American Legion is responsible for moving the exhibit from community to community.

The exhibit can be seen outside Scheels Hunting and Fishing store from now to May 31 during normal business hours at Dakota Square.
