McKenzie County fatal crash

WATFORD CITY A crash between a semi-truck and a pick-up truck in McKenzie County around noon on Thursday left one dead and another seriously injured, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 14 miles west of Watford City on U.S. Highway 85.

Labell Fox, 37, White Shield, drove her 2008 Honda Ridgeline pick-up truck onto U.S. Highway 85 from a private drive, pulling out in front of a northbound 2011 Kenworth semi-truck driven by David Owens, 42, Covington, Ga. The Honda was struck on the driver’s side, killing Fox and seriously injuring passenger Renee Mayer, 50, New Town. While Mayer was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Williston, Owens was uninjured. All three were reportedly wearing their seatbelts.

The Honda suffered disabling damage to the driver’s side and the Kenworth suffered front-end damage.

Fox was with Three Affiliated Tribes’ Social Services and the wife of Fred Fox, who is White Shield representative to the tribal business council, and Mayer is director of tribal Social Services, said Glenda Baker Embry, tribal Public Information officer. She said the women were on their way to Glendive, Mont., to see a tribal Social Services’ client there. Mayer was transferred from the Williston hospital to Trinity Hospital in Minot.
