Rash of vehicle crimes

The Minot Police Department said there were several criminal mischief complaints Thursday morning with people calling in to say their windows had been broken. A total of nine vehicles were vandalized.

The majority of the broken windows, which varied between side windows and rear windows, took place in southeast Minot, but three occurred in southwest Minot. Four took place in the 600 block of 13th St. SE, two in the 2300 block of 7th Ave. SW, and one each in the 2200 block of 5th Ave. SW, the 600 block of 19th St. SE, and the 1700 block of 34th Ave. SE. Nothing was reported stolen from any of the vehicles.

Friday morning saw two different types of vehicular complaints.

A Fender electric-acoustic guitar was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 400 block of 16th St. NW, and another caller reported that someone had entered their vehicle in the 100 block of 18th St. SW but didn’t steal anything.

“Whether they are related is hard to confirm,” said Sgt. Larry Haug of the police department. “We have taken complaints and the matter is now being investigated.”

He stressed that people should not leave items of value in visible areas of their vehicle but instead take items with them when they exit a vehicle or to stow them in the trunk.
