He worked for farmers in that area prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served from October of 1955 to September of 1959 with Company E 547th Engineering Battalion.
Lyle had a love for machinery. He worked for a time as a blade operator in the Upham area. Lyle had a long career (55 years) as an over-the-road truck driver. His travels and deliveries took him to all the lower 48 states. He also worked in the oil fields and grain hauling. He retired from the road in September of 2011 due to health reasons.
Lyle was once married to Mary Ann Mogard, whom he married Sept. 10, 1965. He was once married to Helen Due Lashman, whom he married Nov. 29, 1974. To this union, a daughter, Renae, was born. He also adopted Helen’s children, Terri, Tami and Greg.
Lyle married Connie Viola (Gillstrap) Hall on June 12, 1999. When Lyle wasn’t on the road, he assisted his wife with the operation of the Paragon Cafe in Mohall.
Lyle was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall, and the Minot Moose Lodge. Lyle’s dog, Tinker Bell, was his frequent travel companion on his cross-country trips. Lyle loved working in his new garage; he was rebuilding his dad’s 1941 International tractor from the ground up, including a new paint job. He loved dancing, visiting, joking around, playing solitaire on his computer and spending time with his grandchild. He enjoyed visiting friends at the nursing home, playing cribbage with his mom, teaching his grandson, Kody, to drive his old pickup, and was looking forward to an Alaskan cruise this August.
