Violet Elisebeth (Tandberg) Sivertson-Anderson, the daughter of Johan and Anna (Braaten) Tandberg, was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Glenora, Manitoba, Canada. She died at the age of 92 on Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.
Violet was raised in the home of her parents in Canada until the age of 3 when the family moved to the United States, where they settled in the Newburg area. She received her education in the Newburg school system. Following school, she helped her mother at home, where she met her future husband-to-be who worked in the area cook cars.
On June 27, 1940, she was united in marriage to Stanley Sivertson in Belgrade, Mont., and this union was blessed with six daughters. Over the next few years the couple and family would make their home in several communities including Souris, Seattle, Wash., Deering, Eckman and back to Newburg, where Stanley was self-employed as a contractor and Violet managed the business end of it. Stanley died May 27, 1974.
On July 12, 1975, she was united in marriage to Arthur Anderson in Deering. The couple made their home in Deering, Minot, Towner and back to Minot. Arthur died Oct. 9, 1989. Following his death, Violet moved to Rugby, making her home in the Eastside Village apartments. In the fall of 2005, Violet, needing memory care, moved to the Heart of America Care Center.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she enjoyed membership in the Dovre Lutheran Church in Newburg and later at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby. She was a former Sunday school and Bible studies teacher, a member of the church’s Ladies Aid and was a published poet. An accomplished seamstress, Violet also took great pleasure in quilting, crocheting and anything to do with crafting.
Survivors include: six daughters, Elaine (Leslie) Sand, of Bottineau, Darlene (Bob) Syvertson, of Willow City, Charlotte Lassode, of Rolla, Ioane (Bob) Schmidt, of Lake Metigoshe, Gwen (Dave Carpenter) Kleespie, of Rugby, and Lonna (Arlo) Volson, of Marysville, Wash.; the Anderson stepchildren, Alden (Beverly) Anderson, Young America, Minn., Jeannette (Judd) Orff, of Stillwater, Minn., Carol (Donald) Wellivitz, of Wyoming, Minn., and Bonnie (Peter) Mogard, of Milbank, S.D.; 19 grandchildren, Brenda Hochsprung, Paul (Anne) Sand, Wayne (Pattie) Sand, Tony (Catherine) Sand, Noel (Amy) Sand, Tracie (Jay) Welk, Kelly (Pam) Syvertson, Cindy (Mike) Leblanc, Cory (Lisa) Guderjahn, Thomas (Cheri) Kleespie, Chad Kleespie, Nathan (Monique) Kleespie, Amanda Kleespie, Lytton (Sarah) Volson, Fred (Mara) Lassonde, Martin (Hazel) Lassonde, Fern (Steven) Midstokke, Tammy Lassonde and Mark Lassonde; 68 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Ress, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters-in-law, Lois Tandberg, of Minot, and Kay Tandberg, of Union Gap, Wash.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, her twin, Viola Hunskor, Tilda Olson, Alma Pierson, Myrtle Johnson, Alpha Herslip-Soland and Anna Johnson; five brothers, Alfred, Julius, John, Lester and Melvin Tandberg; two stepdaughters, Donna Grande and Violet Files; and great-grandson, Andrew Robert Sand.
Funeral services: Will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at the Dovre Lutheran Church in Newburg, with burial in the church cemetery, with Pastor Desiree Uhrich officiating
Visitation: Will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby and will continue Saturday for one hour prior to the time of services at the church.
Prayer service and sharing of memories: Will begin at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
