Glenn Dilley, 87, Gillette, Wyo., formerly of Granville, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Close to Home Hospice in Gillette.
Glenn was born Feb. 8, 1926, the son of Herman and Eva Dilley, in Garrison. He was the only son in a family of six children. Glenn was raised and educated in Garrison while working for various farmers in the community.
Glenn enlisted in the Army in 1951. He proudly served his country during the Korean War, where he was a cook in a MASH unit. Glenn was awarded two bronze service stars and a United Nations Service Medal during his service to our country. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Upon discharge from the service he returned home to North Dakota and started working for T.J. Weber in the Granville area.
In 1953 Glenn met the love of his life, Elvera Hanson. They were married on Dec. 19, 1954, in Granville. Glenn and Elvera operated a farm outside of Granville until the farm was sold in 2000. During this time Glenn also worked for Hutton Contracting, constructing power lines in various states and locations. When Glenn and Elvera moved into Granville, Glenn kept himself very busy. He volunteered at the local food pantry and was a welcome sight all around town picking up trash and riding in his golf cart with his dog, Chance, by his side. In 2012 Glenn and Elvera relocated to Gillette.
Glenn was a member of Hope Congregational Church in Granville and the Granville Senior Citizens.
Glenn loved spending time with family and different functions at the senior center and also meeting many wonderful people in his new home. Glenn’s wonderful sense of humor, generosity toward others, love of gardening and his thrifty ways will be greatly missed by his family and anyone who knew him.
