Bernice Anderson, 92, from Palermo, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in a Stanley nursing home. Her funeral service will be Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Palermo. Visitation is today, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley. Burial will be in Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Palermo.
Bernice was born Oct. 21, 1920, to Carl and Hansena (Garnes) Hanson in White Earth. She was raised and attended school in White Earth. Bernice attended Jamestown College and Minot State Teachers College. Her first teaching jobs were in Coteau and then in Stanley.
She married Conrad “Connie” Anderson in June 1945 in Stanley. They made their home in Palermo, where Connie was the depot agent and Bernice continued her teaching career in Stanley and Palermo. Connie died in 1994 and Bernice continued to live in Palermo until 2011, when she entered the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley.
Bernice was active in her community and church. She was church organist for 38 years and was active in the church ladies’ group. Bernice was active in area historical societies, Stanley Retired Teachers Association and was a dedicated volunteer at Mountrail Bethel Home.
She is survived by: her sons, Mark (Ellena) Anderson, Palermo, and Dean Anderson, Bismarck; daughter-in-law, Kathy Mork, of Stanley; grandchildren, Aaron, Ben, Taylor, Brandon, Nicholas and Zachary; and great-grandchildren, Sean, Shelby and Cody.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Connie; son, Milo; brothers, Ralph and Harry; and sister, LaVern.
