Area towns to receive MAGIC Fund marketing grants

A number of area communities will share in more than $47,000 in marketing money from the Minot MAGIC Fund, as approved by the MAGIC Fund Screening Committee Friday.

Communities and their grants are:

Anamoose, $3,000 for advertising the community and $505 to the parks for a sign panel to advertise activities.

Crosby, $3,000 for marketing materials.

Garrison, $4,000 for advertising community events.

Harvey, $1,750 for lighting and landscaping around new signage and $1,750 for media advertising to promote a July 4th celebration and for other marketing materials.

Kenmare, $4,000 to the Goosefelt Community and $4,000 to the Association of Commerce to promote community events.

Maddock, $2,000 for festival advertising.

Parshall, $4,000 for event advertising.

Rugby, $3,500 to expand a marketing campaign.

Sherwood, $2,500 for promotions and new signs at City Hall and the city entrance.

Stanley, $4,000 for community marketing.

Turtle Lake, $1,600 to advertise Turtle Days and support a website.

Underwood, $3,500 for marketing of community events and a website.

Velva, $4,000 to promote Midsummer Nights Jam.

Communities must provide matching funds to obtain the grants.

The committee denied requests from Alexander, Pick City and Towner that members felt didn’t meet the criteria. Velva also had requested $14,500 to develop an economic development plan. The request failed to meet criteria and exceeded the community’s eligible amount but can be resubmitted for other economic development funding.
