Anthony ‘Tony’ Kerzman

Anthony “Tony” Kerzman, 98, Garrison, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Garrison Memorial Hospital.

Tony was born May 1, 1915, to Anton and Josephine (Trost) Kerzmann, at the farmstead west of Garrison. He attended school in Garrison, Parshall and Blackwater Township as he moved with the family. He married Hattie Lanz in February 1941 at Garrison. Together they raised their six children on a farm west of Garrison. Tony also did custom combining and spraying, worked construction and drove bus for White Shield School for several years. He also found pride in inventing and reinventing machinery for his needs and for his neighbors. In 1975, Tony and Hattie moved into Garrison. The Kerzmans always welcomed family and acquaintances into their home with hospitality. Hattie died in January 1981.

In July 1983 Tony married Rose Walter Schmidt in Garrison. Tony continued to do some odd jobs in the area and they did some traveling, but mostly spent time with family and friends visiting and playing cards. Tony loved telling everyone who would listen about life in the Depression and early farming practices. Rose died in June 2010 at age 99.
