Larry W. Swenson

Larry W. Swenson, 68, Bowbells, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 30, 2013, in his home.

Larry Willard Swenson was born April 13, 1945, a son of Willard and Inez (Jensen) Swenson, in Kenmare. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Bowbells, and graduated from Bowbells High School in 1963. Following his graduation, Larry attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, taking courses to become an auto mechanic. Larry left school to take over the operations of the family farm.

On Aug. 21, 1965, Larry was united in marriage to Sharon Hagen in Columbus. Larry was a farmer and rancher but had many other interests. They raised thoroughbred horses and raced them in Canada for many years.

Larry was a former member of the 7th Calvary K-Company, Bowbells Jaycees, Burke County Wheat Commission, Burke County Fair Board, North Dakota Thoroughbred Association, Bowbells School Board, Bowbells Rural Fire Department and Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells.

Larry’s greatest joy was his family. His children and his grandchildren were among his proudest accomplishments. He loved animals, going to auction sales and the flea market. He always had a memorable story to share. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Those who shared in his life: Wife of 47 years, Sharon, Bowbells; daughter, Rachelle (Vince) Smith, and their children Cayden and Mckenna, all of Bismarck; sons, Wayde Swenson, Devils Lake, and Keith Swenson, Las, Vegas; brother, Jerry (Charlotte) Swenson, Minot; sister, Joyce (Bruce) Thompson, Herridon, Va.; sister-in-law, Susan (Syver) Vinje, Bismarck; as well as several other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Clarence and Florian Hagen; a sister-in-law, Beverly (Hagen) Mulder; and a brother-in-law, David Hagen.

Funeral service: Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells.

Burial: Bowbells Community Cemetery, Bowbells.

Visitation: Monday, June 3, from 2 to 6 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
