John C. Chelgren
John C. Chelgren, 22, Minot, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013, in his home.
John Charles Chelgren was born March 6, 1991, the son of Dennis E. and Susan L. (Sladek) Chelgren, in Minot. He was raised and educated in Minot.
During his 12 years of public education, John was involved in a variety of events and activities. He played t-ball, basketball, football, cross country, was a member of the swim team and the math club, and played the piano. John designed the 2004-05 Erik Ramstad Middle School Yearbook.
The state of North Dakota granted John a full scholarship to any university in North Dakota based on his high ACT college entrance exam.
He attended Minot State University, where he was majoring in medical laboratory science. John had a love for mathematics and excelled in all other areas of his education. He received first place in the American Mathematics Competitions for the State of North Dakota in 2008 and won other awards in the mathematic competitions for several other years.
While attending high school and college, John worked at the South Broadway McDonald’s restaurant for five years and most recently worked at Target for the past nine months.
Activities John enjoyed with his family were boating, camping, biking, playing Scrabble and watching old movies which he picked out.
He had a unique sense of humor and always knew how to make you laugh. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
His loving family includes: parents, Dennis and Susan Chelgren, Minot; sisters, Moriah Ann Chelgren, Minot, and Naomi Yvonne Chelgren, Smith River, Calif.; two nephews, one niece; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alvin and Mary Chelgren; and maternal grandfather, Richard Sladek.
Funeral: Monday, June 3, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Norsk Room at the North Dakota State Fair Center, Minot, with a fellowship to follow at the Carnegie Center, located at 105-2nd Ave. SE.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Today, June 2, from noon to 5 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
