Vistas split with West Fargo

FARGO – The Minot Vistas Legion baseball team got its season off on the right foot Thursday, splitting a doubleheader with defending state champion West Fargo.

The Vistas (1-1) received a quality pitching performance from Demetri Zafra in a 4-3 victory in game one before dropping the second game 13-1.

Zafra tossed five innings of six-hit ball, allowing three runs while striking out two. Chandler Jacob didn’t allow a hit in two innings of relief to pick up the save.

“We didn’t commit any errors and our pitchers threw strikes,” Vistas coach Todd Larson said. “We were able to wiggle out of a few jams.”

Marcus Quist led Minot’s offense, going 4-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs in the two games.

The Vistas host a doubleheader against Wahpeton beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Corbett Field. It’s the first game played at Corbett since 2011.
