Metros end 1-3 at Bismarck tournament

BISMARCK – The Minot Metros ended a rough weekend with an 11-3 loss to Beulah on Sunday.

The Metros (4-6) finished 1-3 in the three-day tournament, topping Mandan but also losing to the Bismarck junior legion team and the Bismarck 15-year-old Babe Ruth team.

Trevor Zacher tossed a complete game for Beulah, holding Minot to six hits while striking out 11. The Cyclones’ Cody Nelson went 2-for-3 and Mark Muscha and Logan Behm each batted 1-for-3 with a triple.

Connor Taney went 2-for-3 to pace Minot. Hunter Duttenhefer, who suffered the loss on the mound, had a double for the team’s only extra-base hit.

“We saw a lot of good pitching this weekend and it was a tough weekend as far as record-wise,” Metros coach Jason Steele said. “It’s early in the season, but we made too many errors. We left a lot of guys on base. We just need to find a way to put seven innings together.”

Minot hosts the Bismarck Reps at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Corbett Field. The Reps have beaten the Metros in all three of the teams’ meetings this season.
