Commissioners resolve to fix ‘death trap’

The intersection of the U.S. Highway 83 U.S. Highways 2 and 52 Bypass southwest of Minot was refered to as “a death trap” by Ward County Commissioner Alan Walter in a county meeting last month. Now he and the other commissioners have passed a resolution to address the matter.

The resolution, drafted by Walter, sites an increase in activity beyond the designed allowances for the intersection in recent years. The increase in traffic at the intersection caused at least one death when Megan Shoal, 21, Plentywood, Mont., died in a major crash there.

No concrete plans have been made up for what to do, but the resolution will get the process started.
