Edythe Larson, 90, Minot, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in her home.
Edythe Alice McLain was born Feb. 23, 1923, the daughter of John and Leona (Schroeder) McLain, on the family homestead located in Clay Township of Renville County, rural Mohall. She was raised on the family farm and educated at Clay Center School for nine years.
Following her education, she worked as a phone operator in Mohall for a time. She resided on the family farm to help take care of her four younger brothers. During this time she also helped the local area farmers with spring cleanup and assisted with the meal prep and delivery for the threshers.
Edythe married Clayton Larson on Nov. 26, 1944, in Lansford. They made their home in Wisconsin for a time before moving back to Mohall, where they house sat for area farm families. They moved to Minot in 1950, where they raised their four children. She later went to work as a server/cashier at the cafeteria at the Minot State College Student Union. Clayton passed away Jan. 7, 1978.
Following her husband’s death, she continued to work at Minot State University. She retired in 1988, after 20 years.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, old barns, watching and listening to trains, and painting the interior and exterior of her houses. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Her loving family includes: children, Twyla Fitzgerald, Lake George, N.Y., Clarissa “Onie” (John) Logan, Lakeland, Ga., Gayle (Donn) Stellmachar, Renville, Minn., and Jon (Tamie) Larson, Spokane, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Myrle McLain, Fort Worth, Texas, Lauren (Gladys) McLain, Mohall, Luvern (Marlys) McLain, Minot, and Wayne McLain, Minot; former sons-in-law, Dean Bliss, Ron Wellner, and Bruce Haala; a special cousin, Bill McLean, Lansford; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins,
Edythe was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton; and brothers, Raymond, Kenneth, and Ralph McLain.
Funeral: Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Today, June 21, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
